no illusions. you don't do this on the basis of somebody's statements to you. you do it on the basis of actions that can be verified and more over we have kept the basic architecture of the sanctions is staying in place. there is very little relief. and we are convinced that over the next few months we will really be able to put to the test what iran's intentions are. >> so you at this point trust the new president in iran to be able to follow-through. are you convinced that he has the power to do so? because you know that the hard-liners in iran certainly are singing a different tune than has been sung at the negotiating table. >> absolutely. the simple answer is none of this is based on trust. it's not a question of trust. it's a question of having the verification and the intrusive inspections and the insights into the program and the commitments that can be held accountable so that you are, in fact, creating a fail-safe mechanism by which you are making your judgments. when you're dealing with nuclear weapons, it's not an issue of trust. as the old saying goes if gorbachev and reagan, you k

probably needed to take some more time to explain to the american people but you don't get reported. in fact, one of the things in washington i dislike more than anything else is when people say to me, if you explain it you're losing it. i don't like that at all. i really believe the american people are deserving of explanations and take the time to explain it and i think the media ought to report those explanation. >> let me bring in the senator. so, this clearly, the president is off to a rough start on this. but one of the push backs whenever republicans say this is wrong, that's wrong is you never wanted it in the first place. they sort of turn it back on you yeah it's been rough, yeah it's been terrible but now you're just trying to undermine it. what is your take on the republicans next move to fix some of the things that you think are wrong with this? >> well, you know, candy this past week i introduced legislation, the state health care choice act so states could make decisions if they wanted to opt-out of the individual mandate or the employer mandate for the people in thei

in the mideast where we negotiate with iran and one day you wake up, they don't give up their enrichment capabilities, they don't die vest themselves of plutonium producing reactor, centrifuges continue to spin and you're going to have a nuclear iran and that is far more destabilizing for the mideast than a nuclear northeast. so i'm about the end game. i'm about where does this end? how does this movie with iran ends? if it ends with the four things i said, i would be satisfied. if it ends with anything less then the world will regret this. the israelis are worried about what we're doing. i've never been more worried about the oebd's administration approach to the middle east. we want deals worse than anybody else in the region. thank god for france and thank god for pushback. >> well, there are words you haven't heard recently. but let me ask you. >> yeah. they're becoming very good leaders in the mideast. >> you have suggested that you want more sanctions against iran and you might put them on a defense bill which we think will come up next week in the senate. you would push for more s

that reads, you know, "i'm going to go kill people, and i don't want to kill civilians." with the idea that he's going to die at the end of this. the other thing that i think was equally as tragic is that his family in new jersey had notified new jersey local authorities who then in turn notified the local l.a. police who had visited the suspect's home the morning of the shooting and missed him by literally probably 45 minutes. so this is how we typically stop things is through good intelligence. and if family members or friends see a loved one who has -- is exhibiting signs of mental illness, that does -- and suicidal tendencies which he did describe in his e-mails to his family members, then i think it's incumbent upon the family members and friends to call this to local authorities. they actually did that in this case. and unfortunately, really missed the suspect by a matter of minutes. >> right. when you look at what happened, at least insofar as we know the logistics of it, we know that this suspect was able to take a lot of ammunition and his weapon down a corridor where there we
